In the U.S., one of the key figures in the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal died

Linda Tripp was 70 years old, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer

Linda Tripp, a former employee of the Pentagon, who was among the key figures in the scandal surrounding the extramarital affairs of 42nd President Bill Clinton with Monica Lewinsky, died at the age of 70. This was reported on Wednesday by the channel CNN.

Relatives of Tripp said she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few days ago. Previously, she was treated for breast cancer.

Tripp, a friend of Lewinski’s, secretly taped her phone conversations in 1997. During these long conversations, the latter spoke about her intimate relationship with Clinton. Tripp subsequently gave the tapes to Special Prosecutor Kenneth Starr. This allowed the Clinton impeachment procedure to begin.

Tripp was later accused of taking advantage of a friend’s trust. Lewinsky claimed to hate her. Tripp herself has repeatedly said in interviews that she doesn’t regret what she did.

Lewinski wrote on Wednesday on Twitter: “Whatever happened in the past, after I found out that Linda is seriously ill, I hope that she will recover. I can’t imagine how hard it is for her family right now”.

In 1998, in the U.S. House of Representatives against Clinton were prepared charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, which could serve as grounds for impeachment. In the end, the politician was acquitted by the U.S. Senate.
