Trump said he had nothing to do with the resignation of the Navy minister

The American president also described the situation as unfortunate.

U.S. President Donald Trump assured that he had nothing to do with the decision of Acting Secretary of the U.S. Navy Thomas Modley to resign after his harsh criticism of former commander of the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt Brett Crozier. The American leader said this at a briefing for journalists at the White House on Tuesday.

“I played no part in this”, –  Trump said. – “This whole story is very unfortunate. The commander [Crozier] should not have written the letter, he should not have been Ernest Hemingway. He made a mistake, but he had a bad day”, –  the president stressed.

At the same time, the head of the White House stressed that no one demanded from Modley to resign, and he himself made such a decision to stop the scandal. “The minister probably shouldn’t have said what he said. He didn’t have to resign, but he decided it was best for the country,” Trump said.

The American leader also said that the decision about the future of Crozier has not yet been made. “I think that Defense Secretary Mark Esper is considering this issue now,” he said.
