The radiation background in the center of forest fire in the Chernobyl exclusion zone was exceeded 16.5 times. This was stated by the acting head of the State Ecological Inspectorate of Ukraine Yegor Firsov.
“There is bad news – in the center of the fire, radiation is above normal. The performance of the device is 2.3 with a norm of 0.14. But such a situation is only in the focus of ignition,” said Firsov.
Firsov said that the situation with the elimination of the fire remains difficult. The State Emergencies Service of Ukraine added that aviation was involved in putting out the fire, 64 tons of water have already been discharged. In total, more than 140 people, dozens of pieces of equipment, An-32P aircraft and Mi-8 helicopters were involved in the elimination of the two outbreaks.
