Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe may postpone his official visit to Russia, which was scheduled for May. This was reported on Thursday by Kyodo agency.
According to an agency source in the Government, the Japanese side has begun to consider the issue. It was expected that Abe would visit Moscow in early May to participate in the celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Earlier in February, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi noted that the Japanese government may hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Moscow. At the same time, as Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov said in the same month, Russia has not yet received confirmation from Japan that Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will visit Moscow on May 9.
A parade to mark the 75th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War will be held in Moscow on May 9, 2020. The press secretary of the president of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday has informed journalists that any decisions on change of plans to hold the Victory parade in Moscow on May 9 in connection with threat of distribution of a coronavirus were not accepted, but the situation is monitored.
