Iran says in case of US aggression the response not to be limited to Iraqi territory

The military’s words were a response to Donald Trump’s statement about possible exacerbation in Iraq between Americans and pro-Iranian forces.

Iran’s response in case of US mistakes in Iraq will not be limited to that country alone. This was stated on Wednesday by the head of the Center for Strategic Studies of the Iranian Army, General Ahmad Reza Purdastan.

“If Americans make a mistake in Iraq, the answer will not be limited to Iraqi territory”, – the Club of Young Journalists quoted him as saying. The military’s words were a response to US President Donald Trump’s statement about possible exacerbation in Iraq between Americans and pro-Iranian formations.

The general added that “the resistance forces have enough resources to respond decisively to the enemy. “Research in the region shows that the U.S. is unable to create a new [military] front”, –  he said.

Earlier Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump said that Iran or its supporters in Iraq are preparing an attack on U.S. forces in that country. In this case, he said, “Iran will pay a very high price”.

The situation in the Middle East has sharply worsened after the US missile attack in the area of Baghdad airport on the night of January 3, as a result of which the commander of the special purpose forces of Al-Quds of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces) Kasem Suleimani was killed. In response, on the night of January 8, Tehran launched a rocket attack on two sites in Iraq that were used by the U.S. military: Ain al-Assad base and Erbil airport.
