According to the politician, this will allow Ukraine to gain additional income and overcome the economic consequences of quarantine measures with less losses.
The lifting of the Donbass blockade and sanctions against Russia will allow Ukraine to generate additional revenues and overcome the economic consequences of quarantine measures with fewer losses. The head of the political council of the opposition platform For Life party, Rada member Viktor Medvedchuk, said this in an interview with Ukrainian TV channels on Tuesday.
“We have to lift the economic blockade of Donbass, which will give 1.5-2 percent of GDP, according to experts’ calculations”, – he said. – “We should abandon sanctions against Russia, which we joined after the European Union, restore economic relations with Russia and the CIS countries”, – the politician pointed out, detailing the party’s anti-crisis plan. Medvedchuk added that it is the market of Russia and the CIS that represents a promising direction for Ukrainian exports.
The politician quoted experts as saying that if the quarantine measures in Ukraine last until May and if no additional sources of growth are found, the country’s economy will lose 4% of GDP, and if they last until summer, the losses will already make 9% of GDP. “This is the same decline that occurred in 2015, this is a collapse for the economy in its current situation,” he is sure.
The head of the political council said that the main thing in the anti-crisis plan of his party is to maintain social guarantees. “We must provide pensioners, disabled people with food supplies. We must provide all social benefits for these people, without unnecessary bureaucratic slingshot to confirm certain issues, as Russia has done,” the politician said.
