Drones are used in Vilnius to maintain order in the city and inform residents during the quarantine, introduced because of the coronavirus.
This is reported by Sputnik Lithuania, citing the press service of the local government.
“Drones will patrol daily from 9.00 to 18.00. Only seven unmanned drones have been launched so far, but their number is planned to increase”, – writes Sputnik.
According to the agency, the focus is on parks and playgrounds where people still gather. The drone image is transmitted to the Vilnius City Municipality Emergency Operation Centre, which coordinates where to send public order patrols or call the police.
More than 530 cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Lithuania, seven people have died. The quarantine regime in Lithuania has been extended until April 13.
On 11 March, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak of a new coronavirus infection COVID-19 a pandemic. According to the latest WHO data, more than 697 thousand people in 203 countries are already infected in the world, over 33 thousand have died.
