The Council of Europe considers it important that in times of crisis caused by a coronavirus, authorities provide information in regional and minority languages.
The Council welcomed the measures undertaken by most countries of the world, including the member states of the Council of Europe: from recommendations regarding the basic rules of personal hygiene to partial or complete self-isolation of the population.
“However, not all countries systematically disseminate information, instructions, guidelines or recommendations in languages other than their official languages. National minorities are an integral part of societies, and to ensure full compliance with the measures taken, information about them should be made public and easily accessible to the entire population, ” the Council of Europe recalled.
It is worth noting that most of the citizens of Ukraine are native speakers of the Russian language, however, information messages on it cannot be found on the territory of Ukraine.
