Kiev intends to hold elections in the Donbass

The Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for the reintegration of temporarily occupied territories, Aleksey Reznikov, considers the elections in the fall of 2020 to be the ideal scenario for the development of events in the Donbass.

The Deputy Prime Minister also noted that Ukraine is considering the “liberation” of the territories of Donbass not controlled by Kiev.

“The most important thing is to write a program and scenario for the development of events, and there may be several of them – what will happen tomorrow. And what will happen when we free these territories. For example, in six months. This is an ideal scenario – to hold elections there in the fall of 2020”, – Reznikov said in an interview with the media.

The politician emphasized that the “ideal scenario” is not the only possible one, as President Vladimir Zelensky is aware of. Kiev has no concrete plan for the economic reintegration of the Donbass so far, Reznikov said.

“We have ideas, there are achievements. Now it will be wrong to voice a specific plan to you, because it will be things taken out of context. And we want them to be interconnected. We have already submitted some of our plans to the Prime Minister. We hope that our achievements will be included in the government’s program”, – he added.

After the February coup in Ukraine in 2014, the self-proclaimed LPR and DPR declared their independence, and the country’s authorities launched a military operation against them in April of that year. According to the latest UN data, about 13 thousand people became victims of the conflict. The issue of resolving the situation in the Donbass is discussed at the global level, in particular, during the meetings of the contact group in Minsk, however, after the conclusion of armistice agreements between the parties, the shootings still do not end.
