The EU is grateful to Russia for helping Italy, but does not intend to follow its example

European Union countries have indeed behaved extremely inappropriately against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic, but Europe will not follow the example of states that show solidarity.

This statement was made by President of the European Parliament David Sassoli, commenting on Russia’s decision to support Italy when the EU countries abandoned it alone with the coronavirus.

“It is gratifying to see how our countries in difficult situations have the opportunity to receive support from outside the EU. Europe does the same when other states are faced with a problem, ”assured Sassoli.

The European politician admitted that many countries of the Commonwealth “behaved inappropriately” when an epidemic broke out in Italy. He explained this panic by the fact that the current situation is comparable to the consequences of World War II.

“If someone wants to declare that, looking at the solidarity of other countries, we must accept similar socio-political principles, then I would prefer to refuse,” Sassoli emphasized. – We are experiencing a situation that we have never encountered before. It is comparable to the consequences of World War II.

In this regard, the head of the European Parliament said that the EU is easier to deal with the consequences of the pandemic than with the pandemic itself: “The New Marshall Plan is a good option.”
