In Libya, in the early hours of Friday, fierce fighting has been going on between the opposing forces – the Libyan National Army (LNA) Marshal Khalifa Haftar and the forces of the so-called Government of National Accord (PNS).
Current clashes began when LNA fighters attacked a military convoy of the PNS, who left the city of Misurata in northwestern Libya. During these battles, a total of 70 people died on both sides.
On March 21, the LNA announced the suspension of hostilities against the PNS, based in Tripoli. According to an official statement by the LNA, its command continues to monitor international efforts to reach agreement between the conflicting parties, while remaining committed to ceasefire arrangements.
Dual power is currently observed in Libya. The country has a PNS in Tripoli and the eastern government, which supports Haftar. Since April 2019, his army has stormed the Libyan capital.
