Trump’s distraction maneuver: why does US demand blaming China for COVID-19?

The administration of the US President Donald Trump insists that the future UN resolution should indicate “the Chinese origin of the coronavirus”, NBC News reports citing several diplomatic sources at once.

“Negotiations on a joint declaration on coronavirus in the UN Security Council began to stall due to the fact that the US insists that the virus comes from Wuhan”, – NBC said.

According to sources, this enrages Chinese diplomats, and they are trying to add to the resolution an assessment of China’s efforts to combat the virus.

Chinese diplomats, in turn, accused the United States of “irresponsible activity”. In addition, China has a veto in the UN Security Council, the newspaper recalls.

Professor of St. Petersburg State University Alexander Kubyshkin shared his opinion on why Washington is trying to push through language that indicates the Chinese origin of the virus.

“Trump needs to make excuses for being late with protective measures (in the fight against the spread of coronavirus, – ed.). Obviously, the disease is also explosive in the US. Accordingly, he will try to re-focus his problems on China’s problems. This is part of the anti-Chinese policies of the Donald Trump Administration, especially since China is now showing some success, is rebuilding its economy, is gradually lifting quarantine, and this hurts Trump. There is no consensus on what the United States  should do with COVID-19, Trump in fact conceived to abolish quarantine measures, because it slows down the economy. Indeed, it deals a heavy blow, and the allocated $ 2 trillion are just a drop in the sea. So far the situation is developing in an unfavorable scenario”, – Alexander Kubyshkin says.

The US Senate passed a bill on $ 2 trillion to stimulate the economy in response to the coronavirus pandemic on Wednesday.

The World Health Organization on March 11 announced an outbreak of a new coronavirus infection COVID-19 with a pandemic. According to the latest WHO data, more than 414 thousand people are already infected in the world, over 18 thousand have died.
