Restoration work is supervised by Syrian engineers.
Entrepreneurs began to return and rebuild their businesses in an industrial area in northwest Syria’s Aleppo-Leramun.
The militants who opened fire from Le Ramun on the Aleppo area used the buildings of a dozen factories to produce ammunition and improvised weapons, as well as to provide shelter and fortifications. Retreating under pressure from Government forces, they took away some equipment, while others were destroyed or damaged. As soon as the area was liberated, businessmen started to return there.
“We will restore everything as it was”, – Jamal Eldin el-sufi, who before the war had been involved in garment-making equipment, told Russian journalists. – “I had known for a long time that this moment would soon come, and I waited. My old partners are also waiting for us to start working again, giving good discounts. In a word – everything is ready, only the building is left to restore”.
The Hamdo brothers’ products are in great demand and they reanimate the old rebar and put it back into operation. Construction materials, especially cheap ones, are very much needed in Aleppo, which was destroyed by terrorists.
“The rebar will be as strong as the new rebar, but much cheaper. We give it a second life. We work from morning to night, there are a lot of rebar, and as the rubble clears up, there’s more and more. We are thinking of putting up a canopy here and buying a more efficient machine”, – said businessman Omar Haj Hamdo.
In a short time.
Businessmen are finding new underground guerrilla hideouts, thanks to which they suddenly appeared and fired on Aleppo from these buildings.
“This passage leads to the street where we just stood, which is about a mile away. It’s a tall building there, also ours. They walked up there like this, went upstairs and fired on our Khalidiyah neighbourhood, where I live, from my own building. And then they were hiding out like this”, – said Abdurahim Quraishi, who owned several garment factories in the area before the war.
The rehabilitation work is supervised by Syrian bomb squad, where dangerous items and ammunition are constantly found. Businessmen are confident that production will be restored in the short term – within this year.
The armed conflict in Syria has continued since 2011. The city of Aleppo has been badly damaged in the fighting, and many buildings and landmarks have been destroyed or damaged. Aleppo was the industrial capital of Syria, but because of the conflict, most of its businesses have ceased to operate.
