Cuba sends doctors and nurses to Italy to fight coronavirus

Cuba sent a group of 52 doctors and nurses to Lombardy to fight against coronavirus, said Ambassador Gerardo Penalver Portal.

“For the first time, Cuba sent an emergency team to Italy, one of the countries with the highest coronavirus infection rate”, – he told the reporters at a briefing. The ambassador said that the group includes 52 doctors and nurses, all of them arrived in Lombardy.

“This is the sixth medical team that Cuba sent to combat the spread of coronavirus infection abroad”, – the ambassador added, noting that the Cuban authorities also sent teams to Nicaragua, Jamaica, Suriname and Grenada.

“A team of about 130 Cuban doctors arrived in Venezuela on March 20th”, – he recalled.

The World Health Organization on March 11 announced an outbreak of a new coronavirus infection COVID-19 with a pandemic. According to the latest WHO data, more than 372 thousand people are already infected in the world, over 16 thousand have died.
