The Pentagon has admitted that the U.S. in Iraq has struck at Shiite forces

U.S. forces in Iraq attacked the facilities of the militarized Shiite group “Kataib Hezbollah” in Iraq in response to the rocket attack on the Iraqi base of the international coalition “Taji” the day before, which killed two American and one British military.

“Earlier this evening (Thursday night), the United States launched high-precision defensive strikes against Kataib Hezbollah facilities throughout Iraq. These strikes targeted five weapons depots, significantly reducing their ability to launch future attacks against Coalition forces conducting Operation Enduring Determination”, –  the Pentagon said in a released statement.

It stressed that U.S. strikes were “defensive in nature”, and were “in response to the threat posed by Iranian-backed Shiite militia groups that continue to attack the bases on which coalition forces are based.
