Britain and US condemn shelling of a coalition base in Iraq

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and British Foreign Secretary Dominique Raab have called for accountability for the shelling of the Tajik military base in Iraq, which killed three members of the U.S.-led coalition, according to a statement by the U.S. State Department press office.

The United States and Britain condemned the shelling of a coalition base in Iraq

“U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke with British Foreign Secretary Dominique Raab to discuss the attack on the Taji military base in Iraq, which resulted in casualties among (U.S. and UK military personnel) and others. Secretary of State Pompeo and Foreign Secretary Raab stressed U.S.-U.K. solidarity on the issue and condemned all attacks against coalition troops supporting the government’s efforts to fight the “Islamic State”, –  the statement said.

The State Department also reported that Pompeo and Raab stressed the need to bring to justice those responsible for the attack.
It was previously reported that three U.S.-led coalition members were killed and 12 others injured Wednesday during a missile attack on Camp Taji in Iraq. A total of 18 Katyusha-class rockets (rockets) were fired at the base, the coalition said. The homemade launcher was on a truck several kilometres from the base.
