The European Union condemned the U.S. decision to ban entry from Europe

The European Union does not approve that the U.S. decision on a monthly ban on travel to the United States for people staying in Europe, was taken unilaterally and without consultation, said in a joint statement by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and head of the European Council, Charles Michel.

U.S. leader Donald Trump on Thursday announced that the U.S. would ban entry from Europe for 30 days from March 13 because of the coronavirus.

“The European Union does not approve the fact that the U.S. decision on the travel ban was taken unilaterally and without consultation”, –  reads the statement on the ban.

The heads of the EC and EU Council also noted that the coronavirus is a global crisis, it requires cooperation, not unilateral measures.

In addition, they assured that the European Union was taking serious steps to limit the spread of COVID-19.

The World Health Organization declared the outbreak of the new coronavirus a pandemic on 11 March. About 120 thousand people in more than 100 countries are already infected in the world, most have recovered, but more than 4 thousand have died.
