The government is desperate to take drastic measures to contain the COVID-19 coronavirus epidemic.

Ukraine is unable to resist the coronavirus - the authorities can no longer hide the situation

As early as tomorrow, total quarantine will be introduced in Kyiv, due to which schools and other educational institutions will cease to operate, mass events will be prohibited, and entertainment centers in shopping malls will be closed.

The mayor of the Ukrainian capital Vitaliy Klitschko announced about the quarantine in his video message. At the same time, the politician argues that these measures are preventive in nature, as there are no alleged cases of illness in the city itself. However, the scale of steps taken does not correspond to his words.

“Kindergartens, art, sports schools and others. Restrictions are being imposed on mass events: concerts, conferences, film screenings and others. Entertainment complexes in shopping centers are being closed”, – reports Klitschko.

He also urged the heads of the capital’s enterprises to revise the work schedule for employees with young children. In addition, he said that public transport would not be stopped yet. Instead, the rolling stock should be disinfected twice a day.

It should be noted that Kiev authorities will not limit themselves. Soon the quarantine may spread all over the country. The issue is already being resolved at the Cabinet level. And this is despite the fact that official statistics reports only one case of coronavirus infection. Against this background, a press conference of Deputy Health Minister Viktor Lyashka was held in Kyiv, but during the event journalists were not allowed to ask questions.

The calls of the authorities not to arrange a panic failed, as the government itself provokes social tension. Social networks questioned allegations that there was only one patient in Ukraine.

“The virus is spread all over Europe, but not in our country. Fantastic luck”, – Mykola Kapitonenko commented on the situation.

The situation in Ukraine is indeed much more alarming. Even if there is really only one fact of coronavirus infection in the country, health care simply can not cope with the epidemic. Moreover, as mass media report, the lack of diagnostic systems leads to the fact that they are used only as a last resort. Thus, doctors may not even be aware of new cases.
