The United States deployed heavy B-2 Spirit bombers to the Lajes air base, located on the Portuguese Azores in the Atlantic Ocean. On Monday, March 9, reported the US military command (EUCOM).
“Aircraft will carry out operations at various military facilities in the area of responsibility of the European command of the US Armed Forces. The deployment of strategic bombers in Europe provides familiarization of the crew with the theater (military operations) and demonstrates US commitment to allies and partners”, – the press release said.
It is noted that the deployed bombers belong to the 509th and 131st bombing wings of the US Air Force, stationed at the Whiteman air base in Missouri.
What number of aircraft in question is not specified.
