Turkey expects to conclude a new agreement with the EU on the issue of migrants by 26 March

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu announced Ankara’s plans.

Turkish Foreign Minister said that Ankara plans to reach an agreement with the EU authorities on a new agreement regulating the migration issue by March 26.

“Turkey hopes for a new deal with the EU on migrants by March 26”,  – Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said. –  “The needs of refugees today are different from those that occurred in 2016. The Turkish side will discuss with the EU the steps that can be taken taking into account the realities of today”.

Recall that in 2016, the EU and Turkey signed an agreement under which the EU committed to pay 6 billion euros to Ankara to finance the reception of Syrian refugees, Turkey has agreed to help stop the flow of illegal migrants heading to Europe. In early March, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated the need to review the current migration agreement between Turkey and the EU in connection with problems on the border with Greece with illegal immigrants.
