The West disappointed with Erdogan’s deal with Putin: the US and partners are waiting for the continuation of the war

According to media reports, representatives of the United States, Britain and Germany defiantly expressed their position at the level of the UN Security Council. Diplomats criticized the agreement reached between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The delegations of Western countries made it clear that they expect resumption of hostilities.

Moreover, the American side blocked a statement demonstrating the UN Security Council’s commitment to a peaceful settlement of the situation in Syrian Idlib. By such a demarche, the United States significantly deprived Moscow of the organization’s support in implementing the reached Russian-Turkish agreements.

According to the media, the American representative in closed consultations urged not to rush to accept the relevant statement. As a result, London supported the position of Washington. Thus, the Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the UN, Karen Pearce, criticized the agreements between Putin and Erdogan, referring to their “incomprehensibility.” According to her, it is unclear exactly how the agreements will be implemented, and who will monitor compliance with the silence regime.

Even Germany supported the American position, which the conflict settlement saved from a new wave of Middle Eastern migrants. The German Permanent Representative, Christoph Heusgen, considers it necessary to delay the support of the peaceful scenario, although he recognized the need to create security zones in Syria to avoid an influx of refugees.
