Pristina is desperately asking for help from the Western “partners” in increasing pressure on Serbia.
The corresponding statement was made by the head of the Kosovo “government” Albin Kurti after Sierra Leone decided to withdraw recognition of the independence of the Balkan quasi-state.
Kurti called on the United States and the European Union to increase pressure on Belgrade to force him to abandon his policy. At the same time, he noted that the African country withdrew recognition against the background of how Pristina defiantly decided to refuse part of the duties on Serbian goods.
“We have shown the will to build a constructive dialogue with the Serbian side, but we will not allow our will to be violated,” Kurti says.
As News Front previously reported, Pristina imposed 100 percent duties on Serbian goods in the fall of 2018. This decision entailed the freezing of the dialogue with Belgrade on a Kosovo settlement. Recently, the United States has been insisting on resuming negotiations. As a result, Washington has repeatedly pointed out that duties must be abolished, but the Kosovo elites ignored the demands of Western patrons.
This situation overshadowed the prospects of a self-proclaimed “republic.” Ultimately, after another ultimatum from Washington, Albin Kurti nevertheless agreed to refuse duties, but the parliamentary meeting held the day before showed Pristina’s inability to legitimize the decision.
