US capitulated to militants – gloomy consequences are predicted in the West

One of the most protracted and controversial military campaigns in the West will end where it started.

This was the conclusion made by Antie Schippmann, correspondent of the German Die Welt, commenting on the agreement between Washington and the Taliban terrorist group*, under which a foreign armed contingent should leave Afghanistan in the next fourteen months.

“They are trying to present us with the capitulation of the West under the guise of peace”, – the journalist says.

He emphasized that the protracted Afghan conflict did not bring the necessary result. The terrorist threat has not been neutralized. Instead, the Taliban, with incredible patience, were guaranteed that they would soon be able to regain control of Afghanistan. In this regard, Schippmann recalled the expression popular among Afghan fighters: “You have a watch, and we have time”.

According to the author of the article, the deal between the US and the Taliban can really bring long-awaited peace to Afghanistan, but only in the short term. Then the country will plunge into chaos again. Moreover, as human rights organizations note, women will be the first victims. Schippmann recalled that during the reign of the Taliban women were subjected to severe humiliation. Afghanistan may return to this practice, because Washington ignored this fact by signing a deal in Doha.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has already warned of the possible negative consequences of a return to the totalitarian rule of the Taliban. The author of the article, in turn, notes that the statements of the German diplomat hardly have at least some weight.

Schippmann concludes that the West was unable to cope with the terrorists, and therefore shamefully retreats, hiding behind cynical tales of peace in Afghanistan. And it is the people of Afghanistan who will be left alone with the Islamists who will pay for this surrender. As a result, the author noted that the West, demonstratively promising to defend freedom and democracy, betrayed this idea, and not the first time.

As News Front reported, retired US Army Colonel Douglas McGregor previously admitted that the US military presence in Afghanistan did not contribute to strengthening the statehood of the republic. But the United States turned it into a world heroin machine and an excellent mechanism for money laundering.
