The European Commission called for a halt to military action in Idlib

The European Commission has called on all parties that are deciding on the situation in Syria to stop the military operations in Idlib, said the EC representative at a briefing in Brussels.

“It is necessary to stop military actions – this is the only decision for Idlib, the EU addresses such appeal to all who make decision, Russia too should listen to this appeal”, –  he told.

The situation in Idlib worsened after the terrorists Hayat Tahrir al-Sham launched a large-scale attack on the Syrian government troops’ positions on 27 February. The SAR army returned fire. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the shelling included Turkish soldiers who should not have been there.
As a result, 33 soldiers of the Turkish army were killed and more than 30 wounded. Immediately after receiving information about the Turkish military casualties, the Russian side took measures for a complete ceasefire by Syrian troops, and safe evacuation of the dead and wounded Turkish soldiers to Turkey was ensured. The Russian Ministry of Defense stressed that the aviation of the Russian Air Force was not used in the area.
