Washington forbade companies to sell fuel to Cuba under threat of punitive measures, but did not mention a word about the sale of ships loaded with fuel.
Cuban Transport Minister Eduardo Rodriguez, in a commentary on state television, said that due to US sanctions, there was a problem with the supply of a consignment of fuel to the country. The shipowner was simply afraid to send his ship to the coast of the island, as he was afraid of punitive measures from the United States.
In the end, Cuba made an extraordinary decision that allowed us to level the effect of American restrictions.
“We decided to purchase this ship with money from the modest budget of our country in order to get fuel”, – the Minister of Transport said, without specifying which company Havana worked with.
As News Front previously reported, the Donald Trump administration has stepped up sanctions pressure on Cuba, resulting in a fuel shortage in the country. The head of the White House made such decisions in connection with the fact that the Cuban authorities acted on the side of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who is objectionable to Washington.
It is worth noting that at the end of 2014, Barack Obama, as the president of the United States, removed some restrictions, which marked the normalization of relations with Havana. Trump, having come to power, called this approach wrong, because he did not begin to lift the embargo.
