Attempts to make the people of the Soviet Union guilty of unleashing the Second World War are futile, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“Today we see a huge number of attempts to question the outcome of the Second World War, rewrite history, rewrite the decisions of the Nuremberg Tribunal… Attempts to make our country, from the peoples of the Soviet Union, guilty of unleashing the Second World War, of course, are unpromising and cannot be acceptable to everyone those who are honest with their past”, – said Lavrov.
Russian authorities have repeatedly stated that some European countries are trying to rewrite history. Russian President Vladimir Putin said in mid-December that they, in particular Poland, had entered into a conspiracy with fascist Germany, Russia had documents at its disposal how they were negotiating. According to Russian politicians, Europe is not ready to recognize this part of its history.
In a message to the Federal Assembly, Putin said that the Russian Federation was obliged to ensure that the truth about the Great Patriotic War was preserved and to resist attempts to falsify its history.
