U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected the suggestion of Russia “interfering” in the elections because he “does not need the help of any foreign state.
“First, I don’t need help from any country. And I have not received any help from any country”, – Trump said, answering the journalist’s question whether he could promise the American public that he would not accept any ‘foreign aid’ in the upcoming presidential election.
A scandal broke out in the United States on Friday before the election in Nevada. On the one hand, CNN, citing high-ranking intelligence sources, reported that Russia is allegedly trying to do everything possible to ensure that Donald Trump remains president. On the other hand, the Washington Post reported with reference to its other sources that Russia is allegedly trying to help another candidate for nomination from the Democratic Party of the United States – Bernie Sanders. In response to the publication, he stated that he does not need such assistance and called on Russia to “stay away” from the American elections. The publication did not specify what kind of assistance was in question.
Earlier, the Axios portal reported that the Democrat leaders in the U.S. Senate called on the country’s Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Finance Minister Stephen Mnuchin to impose new sanctions against Russia for allegedly interfering in the presidential election of 2020. The letter was signed by the minority leader in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez and Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown.
The Russian Federation has previously repeatedly denied U.S. allegations of interference in the 2016 presidential election.
