US could not prove that Russia has interfered or is going to interfere in the country’s elections, but that does not mean that it cannot be punished.
This seems to be what Democrat senators, who propose sanctions against Russia for alleged attempts to influence the U.S. elections in 2020, believe.
Chuck Sumer, the leader of a democratic minority in the Senate, and Senators Robert Menendez and Sherrod Brown came up with this idea. They sent a letter to Mike Pompeo, head of the U.S. State Department, and Stephen Mnuchin, head of the Treasury Department.
“We urge you to immediately draw conclusions from intelligence reports and develop sanctions against those responsible for continued interference in the elections”, – the document says.
So, what to pay attention to if there was no interference? The logic of some American officials will not be understood.
