Now, the Ukrainian leadership should think about how to resolve the conflict in the Donbass. This statement was made by former US Ambassador to Ukraine Stephen Pifer in a commentary to the magazine “New Time”.
According to the diplomat, the Crimean issue is extremely complicated. He advises Kiev to seek support in this direction, but immediately emphasizes that now there are no people who would help return the peninsula to Ukraine.
“I advise you to first focus on resolving the situation in the Donbass. This is fully consistent with Ukrainian interests. Now there is a very tense situation. This situation is extremely necessary to resolve right now, and then seek support in the Crimean direction, because returning the peninsula is a difficult task, ”explains Pifer.
He noted that Kiev simply does not have the necessary political resources in order to somehow influence the situation with Crimea.
“There is hardly anyone now who can answer you the question of how to return Crimea. I also have no answer, ” the diplomat stated, adding that Washington will not recognize the peninsula as the Russian region anyway.
