The notorious Moldovan oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc paid Richard Grenell, who recently became the acting director of the US National Intelligence.

On the salary of a foreign corrupt official: American official was at the epicenter of a scandal

It is reported by the Moldovan publication “Anticoruptie”.

According to media reports, Grenell, who was famous for his provocative statements as an ambassador to Germany, advised the former head of the Democratic Party of Moldova, Vladimir Plahotniuc. It is worth noting that earlier information appeared in the republic according to which the escape of the odious oligarch was supervised by American intelligence agencies.

In addition, in 2016, Richard Grenell wrote several publications for The Washington Times and The Washington Examiner. In these articles, Grenell commented on the situation with financial fraud in Moldova and justified the Moldovan oligarch. It is noteworthy that the American official did not report such patronage to a special agency that operates in the United States under the law on registration of foreign agents.

“Richard did not receive financial rewards for these publications. He only expressed his own opinion,” the lawyers of the official responded.

However, the law on registration of foreign agents requires reporting on work commissioned by a foreign politician, regardless of whether it was paid or not.

As NewsFront reported, after the Socialist Party and the pro-Western bloc ACUM last summer agreed to form a parliamentary coalition in Moldova, the Democratic Party, under the control of Plahotniuc, tried to make a coup. With the assistance of Russia, the European Union and the United States, PDM managed to achieve recognition of the new ruling force. Against this background, Plahotniuc fled the country in order to avoid justice for numerous crimes, in particular, the theft of a billion dollars from the country’s banking system.
