Germany’s Interior Minister Horst Seehofer called the shooting in Hanau a terrorist act out of extremism, it was reported.
“This is clearly a racistly motivated terrorist attack. Following the assassination of Walter Lübke (head of government in Kassel) and the attack on the Halle synagogue, this is the third right-wing terrorist act in Germany in the last few months”, – Seehofer said at a press conference in Berlin.
A man unknown on Thursday night attacked two hookah houses and a bookmaker’s office in Hanau. The perpetrator was alone. A little later, the attacker was found dead in his home, another body was found nearby. A total of 11 people were killed because of the suspect’s actions.
Hanau is located 20 kilometres from Frankfurt am Main, the financial capital of the EU and one of the largest airports in Europe.
