Initially more than 15 thousand people put forward their candidatures, some of them were not confirmed by the Council on Protection of the Constitution, others later withdrew from participation themselves.

According to experts, the election will decide who will lead the parliament – reformists who are considered supporters of President Hassan Rouhani and currently constitute a majority in the parliament, or conservatives who oppose the government’s course.
