In Mexico, unknown people kidnapped a journalist

The journalist Adrian Fernandez was abducted by unidentified armed men in the city of Cuernavaca, in the state of Morelos in central Mexico. This was reported on Twitter on Thursday by the representative of the international human rights organization Article 19.

“We are aware of the illegal imprisonment of Adrian Fernandez, journalist and owner of Perfil magazine, who was abducted from a bar <…> in Cuernavaca by armed men”, –  the report said.

According to witnesses, unknown persons killed one of the employees of the institution, after which they forcibly removed Fernandez from the bar.

Article 19 officers demanded that the authorities do everything necessary to find him alive and as soon as possible.

At least 150 journalists had been killed in Mexico since 2000, more than 10 of whom had been criminals in 2019. In August of the same year, Reporters Without Borders called Mexico the most dangerous country for media representatives. According to the prosecutor’s office investigating crimes against freedom of expression, 99% of offences against Mexican journalists go unpunished.
