Kazakhstani law enforcers are investigating almost 90 cases after the riots in the south of the country, reported Deputy Interior Minister Marat Kozhayev.

“As of today, hundreds of people have been interrogated and procedural actions are underway”, – Kozhayev told reporters.

The number of criminal cases is constantly growing as new circumstances are being clarified, the official added.
“About 90 criminal cases (opened) on various occasions”, –  Kozhayev said.

On the night of February 8, mass riots occurred in Korday District, Zhambyl Oblast, in southern Kazakhstan. According to the Interior Ministry, the reason was a road conflict, which provocateurs tried to give to the inter-ethnic character.
The riots killed ten people and detained nearly 50 participants in the mass brawl, according to the latest figures. Dozens of private residences, as well as commercial facilities and cars, were damaged by arson.
Radio Sputnik reported February 10 that Kazakhstani President Kasymzhomart Tokayev ordered officials and police to be fired after the riots.
