Kazakhstan will continue to discuss with Russia the “Power of Siberia”

Kazakhstan will continue to discuss with Russia the possibility of passing the “Power of Siberia-2” gas pipeline through the territory of the republic for gasification of a number of its regions, said Tuesday Energy Minister of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nogaev.

Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan earlier during a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Energy of Russia Alexander Novak proposed to consider the possibility of passing the gas pipeline “Power of Siberia-2” through the territory of the republic with further accession to the gas pipeline system of China “West-East”. At the same time, in February Novak reported that work has already begun to assess the possibility of supplying Russian gas to China through the planned pipeline “Power of Siberia-2” through the territory of Mongolia.

“Implementation of this project so far in the plans, specific parameters are not outlined, there are various options for the supply of gas from Russia to China, and we proposed that this pipeline, if possible, through the territory (Kazakhstan). Our interest is to ensure gasification of the East Kazakhstan Oblast. Novak took into account, and we will continue to work it out”, –  Nogayev told reporters.

The issue of possible gasification of Kazakhstan’s Pavlodar Oblast through this pipeline is also at stake, he said.
