German Foreign Minister comments on attacks on Idlib zone

Moscow should use its influence on the Bashar al-Assad regime to stop attacks on settlements in the Idlib de-escalation zone.

This was announced by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas at a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu in Munich.

According to the minister, these expectations were brought to the attention of the Russian side during the meeting on the morning of February 15.

Germany is seriously concerned about the inevitability of a humanitarian tragedy if the attack on the Idlib de-escalation zone continues, the minister stressed.

If the attacks continue, even more people will leave the Idlib de-escalation zone, which is not beneficial to anyone.

“In this regard, I hope that Turkey and Russia will be able to achieve results in the upcoming negotiations on the issue of preventing a humanitarian catastrophe in Idlib,” added Maas.
