Vandals desecrated a monument to General Vatutin in Kiev

A group of vandals poured green liquid on a monument to the Soviet military commander General Nikolai Vatutin in the Mariinsky park in Kiev, the Ukrainian portal Strana.ua reported, citing the press service of the metropolitan police.

“While patrolling the territory of the Mariinsky Park, officers of the Special Purpose Regiment No. 2 noticed that unknown persons doused the monument with green substance and rushed to the run. Law enforcement officers caught up with and detained one of the fugitives”, – the agency reports.

The detainee was a 19-year-old young man.

On this fact, criminal proceedings were opened under subsection 297 (3) (abuse of a grave, other place of burial or the body of the deceased), which provides for up to seven years in prison.

The police are looking for other participants in the offense.
