The main Moldovan Euro-integrator named Russia’s role in the Transdniestrian bloodshed

Only one statement caused a new scandal in Moldova.

Thus, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic Aureliu Chokoy, commenting on the events of thirty years ago, said that Russia did not commit aggression during the Transnistrian conflict.

According to him, the actions of the Russian side only contributed to ending the bloodshed. At the same time, he pointed out that the conflict itself was provoked by “self-acting separatists”.

“In practice, Russian troops based in the eastern part of Moldova stopped the bloodshed with their intervention”, –  the minister said.

At the same time, he found it difficult to answer the question who exactly called on Russia to take this peacekeeping step.

It is noteworthy that such a position of a high-ranking Chisinau politician caused indignation among Moldovan Russophobes. They blame President Igor Dodon for such statements.

“One could expect this from the minister, as he is in the service of the president, who has already been marked as a “betrayal”, – complained the head of the association “Justeţe” Alexander Banari.

Let us recall that in 1992, Moldova deployed a large-scale military operation in Transnistria. It all started with the first April attack of the Moldovan special forces on the city of Bender, which victims were six people, including civilians. In the summer, the regular army, artillery, and aviation were deployed against the DMR. Russia’s peacekeeping mission, which began on 29 July 1992 and continues to this day, ended the conflict.
