State Duma says Democrats will not abandon attempts to get rid of Trump

Representatives of the US Democratic Party will not abandon attempts to “get rid” of the US leader Donald Trump, said Sergei Zheleznyak, a member of the State Duma’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

The US Senate on Wednesday acquitted Trump on both counts of abuse of power and the obstruction of Congress. Thus, the process of impeachment ended to no avail, Trump remained in office. In December 2019, the House of Representatives voted only for Democratic deputies to impeach Trump. Democrats believe that Trump put pressure on the Ukrainian authorities, trying to get an investigation against his political opponent Joe Biden and his family members, and then prevented the investigation in Congress.

“The defeat of the Democrats in the US Senate does not mean that they are ready to give up and stop trying to get rid of the Republican president. Now, Trump’s opponents will focus on working with the electorate, will use all the remaining trump cards”, – Zheleznyak quoted his press service.

So, the deputy believes, most likely, in the near future there will be new “disclosures” and witnesses who are ready to speak out against Trump and his policy.

“It is obvious that the President celebrating the victory today understands the need to increase activity in work with voters. Now Trump needs a new victory and if he doesn’t manage to achieve it in domestic politics, he will rush to “win” the foreign arena”, – Zheleznyak believes.
