Iran is interested in Russian military equipment, said the ambassador

Tehran is interested in Russian military equipment, Russian Ambassador to Iran Levan Dzhagaryan told.

“Yes, there is, of course, because our military equipment is rightfully considered the best in the world and the cheapest in the world”, – said the ambassador, answering the question whether Tehran is interested in Russian military equipment, but did not specify in what particular way.

At the same time, he recalled that in the field of military-technical cooperation with Tehran Moscow adheres to the restrictions imposed on Iran in accordance with international law – in accordance with UN SC Resolution 2231.
“But these restrictions are temporary, until October 2020”, –  Dzhagaryan added.

Commenting on the possibility for Iran to acquire Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems, the head of the Russian diplomatic mission pointed out that Tehran itself should make a decision on this issue.
In summer 2019, Bloomberg agency with reference to two knowledgeable persons reported that Russia allegedly rejected Iran’s request to sell it S-400. Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov then commented on such reports, saying that Russia had not received any requests from Iran.
The same information was confirmed by official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Abbas Musavi, who pointed out that Tehran has developed its own systems and does not feel the need for Russia.
