The EU finally approved the deal on Brexit

The agreement provides an orderly exit of Great Britain from the EU and covers the rights of citizens, financial calculation, transition period and other issues.

The Council of the European Union approved in writing a deal on the UK’s secession from the EU, finally completing the ratification of the agreement on its part. This was reported on the EU Council website on Thursday, January 30.

It is noted that the agreement on Brexit will enter into force on January 31, 2020 at midnight Central European time.

“From now on, the UK will no longer be a member state of the EU and will be considered a third country. The withdrawal agreement ensures an orderly exit of the UK from the Union. It covers citizens’ rights, financial settlement, transition, protocols for Ireland / Northern Ireland, Cyprus and Gibraltar, management and other separation issues”, – the report said.

Lately the European Parliament ratified the agreement on Britain’s exit from the European Union. In support of the Brexit agreement, 631 MEPs voted, against – 49. Another 13 people abstained. A simple majority was needed to ratify the document.

Recall, on January 24, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson signed an agreement on Brexit. Britain will cease to be a member of the EU on January 31.
