The coast guard of the Royal Navy of Morocco detained 210 illegal migrants in the Mediterranean earlier this week, the Moroccan agency MAP reports citing a military source.
According to the source, the Coast Guard patrol detained 210 illegal migrants on Monday and Tuesday, eight of whom are Moroccan citizens.
The source added that after providing the necessary medical care, illegal migrants were transported to Moroccan ports on the Mediterranean Sea.
Morocco, located just 14 kilometers from the Spanish coast, has become a transit point for illegal migrants seeking to reach Spain. The kingdom authorities have been trying for many years to counteract illegal migration.
