Moscow will not leave the expansion of the EU sanctions lists unanswered and intends to respond with mirror measures, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.
“On the one hand, we will draw the necessary conclusions from this step of the EU, which is at variance with the request of key European capitals to normalize relations with Russia. Of course, we will not leave the decision of the EU Council without our mirror responses”, – Zakharova said at a briefing.
On Tuesday, the Council of the European Union’s Common Affairs Council decided to add seven people to the sanctions list for Ukraine due to the elections in Crimea in 2019. Sanctions mean a ban on travel to EU countries and freezing of assets in the European Union. The list included, among others, the head of the Crimean government, Yuri Gotsanyuk, as well as the acting governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozhaev.
