European politicians are hypocritical and apply double standards when they oppose Serbia’s cooperation with Russia and China, said Serbian Defense Minister Aleksandar Wulin. His words are quoted by the PTC TV channel.
His position was expressed by the head of the military department in response to a statement by Chairman of the Bundestag Committee on European Affairs Gunter Krikhbaum that “a candidate for membership in the European Union can not consider Russia as a full and equal EU partner”.
Wulin reminded that Germany, together with Russia, is completing the “Nord Stream 2” project, while China is one of its largest trading partners.
He compared the German MP’s double standards in relation to different countries with the theory of “true Aryans” from the time of Hitler’s Germany.
The Minister of Defense stressed that Russia and China are friends of Serbia, they do not refuse to support it and do not condition the friendship on economic or political choice.
Earlier, former Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that Moscow and Belgrade are actively cooperating at various venues, while the Russian side is calm about the country’s attempts to integrate with the EU.
The EU has granted candidate status to Albania, Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro. Montenegro applied for membership in 2008, negotiations started at the end of June 2012. The dialogue on Serbia’s accession started in January 2014. At the same time, it has been repeatedly stated in Brussels that a new stage of EU enlargement may occur no sooner than 2025.
