Qatar has appointed a new Prime Minister

Khalid bin Khalifa Al-Thani will also serve as head of the Ministry of the Interior.

The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, accepted on Tuesday the resignation of the current Prime Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani, and appointed a new Head of Cabinet. This was announced by the Al Arabiya TV channel.

“The Head of State of Qatar accepted the resignation of the current Prime Minister and appointed Khaled bin Khalifa Al-Thani as the new Head of Government”, –  reads a special statement issued by the Office of the Emir of Qatar.

Abdallah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani has headed the Emirate’s government since 2013.

The statement also stated that the appointed Prime Minister will also serve as the head of the Interior Ministry.

It is noted that the Emirate’s Foreign Minister and Energy Minister have retained their positions in the new cabinet.
