Forces of the Government of National Accord of Libya have stated that they shot down the drone of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Marshal Khalifa Haftar east of the city of Misrata, the Libyan portal Ean Libya reported citing a representative of GNC troops Muhammad Kanuna.
According to Kanauna, the PNC air defense forces shot down an Emirati-manufactured drone in service with the LNA east of Misrata.
Following the overthrow and assassination of Libyan leader Muammar Al-Qadhafi in 2011, Libya effectively ceased to function as one State. The country is now under twofold domination. In the east, the parliament elected by the people sits, while in the west, in the capital, Tripoli, the Government of National Accord, formed with the support of the United Nations and the European Union and headed by Fayez Sarrage, rules. The authorities in the east operate independently of Tripoli and cooperate with the Libyan National Army, Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
