Democratic lawmakers finished their opening arguments on Friday in a lawsuit against impeachment of the Republican President Donald Trump in the US Senate, warning that he is a threat to democracy and will abuse his power again if he is not removed from office.
On the third and final day of the opening statements, the Democrats tried to reinforce the belief that Trump had abused his position by pressuring Kiev to investigate Joe Biden, the former vice president and presidential candidate for the 2020 Democratic Party, and then prevented Congress from investigating the matter by banning testimony and withholding of documents.
“The important thing is whether Trump is a danger to the country, because he will do it again. And none of us can be sure, based on his track record, that he will not do it again, because every day he tells us what he will”, – said Schiff.
The presidential team of lawyers will open their defense arguments on Saturday, and they will have up to 24 hours in three days to present their arguments. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the Saturday session will begin at 10 a.m. (3 p.m. GMT) and will last several hours.
