Turkey proposes to include the Russian S-400 to the NATO defense system

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has proposed the creation of a NATO working group to assess how the Russian S-400 system can be integrated into the defense system of the alliance. About this writes RIA Novosti.

The Turkish Foreign Minister made such an offer, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

“The concern is that the F-35 fighters and the C-400 systems are incompatible … Let’s create a working group, NATO will be able to lead it. Let the experts study this issue and make an assessment,” Cavusoglu said.

Deliveries of the latest Russian S-400 air defense systems, which caused a crisis in relations between Turkey and the United States, began in mid-July. According to Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, the C-400 will be fully operational in April 2020. Washington demanded a refusal of the deal and in exchange to acquire the American Patriot systems, threatening to delay or even cancel the sale of the latest F-35 fighters to Turkey, as well as impose sanctions in accordance with CAATSA (Law on Countering America’s Adversaries through Sanctions). Ankara refused to make concessions.
