Pyongyang does not intend to abide by the agreements with Washington, as the United States continues a hostile policy towards the People’s Republic. This was stated on Tuesday by the adviser to the Permanent Mission of the DPRK to the UN Office at Geneva, Zhu Young Chol, quoted by Reuters.
“We no longer see reasons for unilaterally observing the agreements that the other side refuses to fulfill,” the diplomat said. “If the US continues its hostile policy towards the DPRK, then the Korean Peninsula will never be denuclearized.”
“In the event that Washington makes attempts to impose its demands unilaterally and insists on the imposition of sanctions, the DPRK will be forced to take a different path,” summarized Zhu Young Chul.
DPRK leader Kim Jong-un and U.S. President Donald Trump at a meeting on June 30, 2019 in Panmunjom agreed to resume working-class consultations on denuclearization, which were suspended after the unsuccessful conclusion of their summit in Hanoi in February 2019. In accordance with this agreement, on October 5, 2019, representatives of the United States and North Korea met in Stockholm to discuss prospects for normalizing bilateral relations, but failed to establish a dialogue between Washington and Pyongyang by the end of 2019.
