The statement by the deputy secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, Serhiy Kryvonos, about Kiev’s readiness to start a forceful variant of returning control over the Donbass speaks about President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s inability to change the policy towards the region, the speaker of parliament of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, Volodymyr Bidevka, said.
Earlier, an MP of the Donetsk People’s Council, Vladyslav Berdychivskyy, told RIA Novosti that the Donetsk Republic is ready for any scenario, while an offensive by law enforcers may end with “total humility” of the Ukrainian armed forces.
“Such statements by Ukraine only confirm the fact that the peaceful settlement of the conflict is not a priority for that country. Unfortunately, we see that “peace president” Zelensky, as he positioned himself during the election campaign, is unable to change Ukraine’s policy towards Donbass. In fact, it turns out that apart from the ‘beautiful picture’ in the spirit of show business, he is, in fact, unable to bring anything else to life,” Bidevka told reporters.
According to him, the Ukrainian government continues looking for ways to solve the conflict by force, but “it would be better to look for a way to implement the Minsk agreements”.
“In any case, the guarantor countries should pay attention to the message that Kryvonos said in his statement”, – Bidevka said.
In April 2014, the Ukrainian authorities launched a military operation against the self-declared LPR and DPR, which declared independence after the state revolution in Ukraine in February 2014. According to the latest UN data, about 13,000 people fell victim to the conflict. The issue of settling the situation in Donbass is discussed, in particular, during meetings of the contact group in Minsk, which has already adopted three documents regulating steps to de-escalate the conflict since September 2014. However, even after the ceasefire agreements between the parties to the conflict, shootings continue.
